About Me

I’m Ed Sevilla, a Filipino American aspiring author and loyal grandson of Emeterio Asinas. Two years ago, my family discovered his personal papers hidden away in a storage box in Manila, Philippines. We found an amazing story of heroism and devotion, and the papers are now housed in the archives of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. I started this newsletter, “The Fighting Filipinos” to piece together the highlights of his papers and share his story with readers like you.

About You?

If you’re a World War II aficionado, a reader of memoirs, an enthusiast for Asian American stories, or even just a grandkid who loves their grandpa and always wanted to know more about him, this newsletter is for you.

What You’ll Get

On the anniversary of every important day of Emeterio Asinas’ World War II journey, you will receive a short newsletter post that describes what happened, why it happened, why it was important, and what might happen next. The newsletter postings will be short – 500 to 750 words, designed to be read in just three to five minutes. Photographs and links to audio and video will be provided where possible. Postings will be as frequent as twice a week during busy times in his story (such as January through April, during the Battle of Bataan) and monthly at a minimum.

By following Emeterio Asinas’ story, you will receive a regular dose of resilience and inspiration. You will also gain a real-time sense of the duration of the war that Filipinos and Americans endured as they fought side-by-side for freedom.

How does that sound? I’d love to have you join The Fighting Filipinos.
